The Nearness of God
Your eye consists of more than one hundred million rods and six million cones in the retina. If they were shaped slightly differently you could see an aura surrounding each human body. Infrared cameras can actually photograph this mysterious spectrum. At death this aura goes out just like turning out a light. Vibrations that accompany the light in life also cease at death.
A person can sit with legs folded on what is known as a cold hot plate and fry an egg on a plate between his legs. The eggs fry and the human feels nothing. Persons and eggs respond differently because they are not both in tune with the same wavelengths of such heat.
Dogs hear whistles that are indiscernible to the natural human ear. Human ears are simply tuned to the sound of the whistle.
Is it possible that existing as a co-tenant with humanity is the spiritual world just outside the range of our five senses?
Jesus said He would not leave us, that He would be with us always. Explaining that is beyond my pay grade. We live by faith, not feelings, or any of our other four senses. Though undetected and undetectable He may be more near us than we have ever realized.
Most believers have felt the nearness of God at special times. Those are rare sensations not to be sought, though the nearness of God is felt at appropriate times.
We are told to “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. … “ Then follows the way to do this, “Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” (James 4: 8)
To cleanse your hands is a reference to having your sins forgiven. It is a reference to outward conduct, sins needing forgiveness. One household has a little sign by their lavatory reading: “Wash your hands and say your prayers because Jesus and germs are everywhere!”
Studies show 31 per cent of women and 57 per cent of men don’t wash their hands after going to the toilet. Even more repulsive is that many people don’t repent and ask Jesus’ cleansing after sin.
To “Purify your hearts” means to clean out any wicked thoughts, motives, desires, and intentions, from the core of our being, to purge your mind of them.
You can’t have clean hands without a pure heart. The two go together like hand and glove.
You may do so without feeling his presence, but you can’t feel His presence without doing it.
Whether you sense His presence or not, He is there. Don’t act like, act because of it.
